HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 c728W
Mr. Peter Lloyd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the latest figures for the volume of sales of English tomatoes; and what are the latest figures for imports of Dutch tomatoes.

Mr. Peter Walker

Precise figures are not available. Trade sources estimate total sendings of English tomatoes at some 51,000 tonnes so far this year. This is about 13 per cent. more than last year. Supplies in the last four weeks are estimated at about 21,000 tonnes, or 18 per cent. more than in the corresponding period in 1981.

Dutch supplies were 53,800 tonnes up to 17 July, or 8 per cent. up on last year. In the four weeks ending 17 July the Dutch sent us 14,800 tonnes, or 13 per cent. less than in the same period in 1981.
