asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has yet reached a conclusion on the recommendations contained in the report of the advisory board for the research council's working party on postgraduate education, the Swinnerton-Dyer report, in so far as they affect the Social Science Research Council; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend is considering those recommendations which are addressed to his Department. It is for each research council to decide how to respond to those recommendations which are addressed to the councils.
