HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 c855W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the extent of the financial provision for repatriation of immigrants from the New Commonwealth and Pakistan operated by his Department.

Mr. Newton

Regulation 25 of the Supplementary Benefit (Single Payments) Regulations (SI 1981 No. 1528) sets out the circumstances in which supplementary benefit claimants who have been unable to settle in Great Britain can be assisted with voluntary repatriation expenses, and lists the items for which payment can be made.

Records on the repatriation scheme are kept by reference to destination rather than country of origin. In 1981, 15 applications for assistance with the costs of travel to Pakistan, to a Commonwealth country other than Australia, Canada or New Zealand, or to a dependent territory, were approved, at a total cost of approximately £7,300.
