HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 cc809-10W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether Her Majesty's Government will either change the present method or system of issuing the Queen's Awards to Industry or initiate a similar additional type of scheme for those businesses that have, during the year past, reduced prices, increased production, increased profits and in other ways assisted the anti-inflation drive and for this to be called the Queen's award for successful endeavour against inflation.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

The Queen's Awards for Export and Technology, formerly the Queen's Awards to Industry, are conferred on companies with outstanding achievements in these fields. These companies tend by their very nature to be those who have been successful in the ways described by the hon. Member. I do not therefore think there is any need to change the present method or system nor to introduce a separate scheme based on the criteria proposed.
