HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 c742W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he has now considered all the representations made to him by hon Members of both Houses about the possibilty of a financial refund to officer prisoners of war held in Germany and Italy during the Second World War, or to organisations representating them, in view of the continued uncertainty surrounding payments made to these officers after the war.

Mr. Wiggin

Debates on this matter have taken place in both Houses recently. My noble Friend the Minister of State for Defence Procurement has held discussions with hon. Members from both Houses who have taken Lai interest in this question to hear their views and to explain the Government's response and the evidence on which it is based. There is no evidence of maladministration or impropriety and it remains the Government's view that there is no case to re-open this matter so long after the event.
