HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 cc855-6W
Mrs. Rumbold

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what area of National Health Service management it is proposed should be the subject of scrutinies on the lines of those introduced in the Civil Service by Sir Derek Rayner.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

In April my right hon. Friend announced the first scrutiny into the collection of payments due to health authorities under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act. I can now announce nine further studies which regional health authorities expect can begin between September and March next year.

Study Sponsoring region
The administrative arrangements for preparing the briefs for major hospital building schemes Northern
Arrangements for advertising for staff East Anglia
The storage of supplies North East Thames
Catering costs South East Thames
The cost and effectiveness of meetings of health authority officers Wessex
Policies and management for health authorities' residential property Oxford
Procedures for acquisition, distribution and recovery of aids Oxford
Documentation and procedures in the ambulance service West Midlands
Collection of income due to health authorities North Western

Three other regions are currently considering studies and I hope to be able to announce additions to the list later in the year.
