HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 c806W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what was the cost of advertising jobs in the Civil Service for the first six months of 1981 and 1982; and how many vacancies were advertised in each period.

Mr. Hayhoe

Advertising of local delegated recruitment, which accounts for roughly 90 per cent. of all recruitment to the Civil Service is undertaken by employing Departments. Details of cost and vacancies are not held centrally and I regret that this information cannot be provided without a disproportionate expenditure of time and resources.

The expenditure on advertising in connection with central recruitment to the Civil Service by the Civil Service Commission in the first half of 1981 was £271,827 and in the same period in 1982 was £385,868. A total of 1,641 vacancies were advertised in January-June 1981 and 1,862 in 1982.
