HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 c780W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what extent Members of the European Assembly receive pensions and redundancy payments; and whether British Members of Parliament who are also members of the Assembly are able to claim dual pension and redundancy payments.

Mr. Mayhew

[pursuant to his reply, 29 June 1982, c. 268]: Under section 3 of the European Assembly (Pay and Pensions) Act 1979 a Member of the European Parliament who stands at a general election to the European Parliament and is not elected is entitled to a severance grant equal to 3 months salary at the rate applicable to him immediately before the election. The severance grant entitlements of Members of Parliament are not affected by membership of the European Parliament.
