§ Mr. Denis Howellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what consultations were held with the Water Space Amenity Commission prior to the Government's proposal for its abolition; and how he proposes to ensure that the statutory obligations exercised by the Water Space Amenity Commission, are to be replaced to the satisfaction of those who enjoy water-based recreation and leisure.
§ Mr. Giles ShawNo consultation was held with the Water Space Amenity Commission prior to my right hon. Friend's announcement. Water authorities now have a full awareness of the importance of water recreation and amenity and there is no longer any need for a central statutory body to provide advice and guidance in the manner prescribed in section 23 of the Water Act 1973.
