§ Mr. Home Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will extend the deadline for the payment of grants to regional and islands councils towards the cost of 719W repairing winter damage to roads in respect of major works such as bridge replacements which could not be completed before 1 May.
§ Mr. Allan StewartThe deadline for the completion of work to be eligible for assistance under the special winter assistance scheme was 31 May; payments of grant may be made after the deadline. My right hon. Friend does not propose to extend the deadline since the scheme was intended to cover only emergency work needed to restore services.
