HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 c527W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to ensure that henceforward the strictest vetting procedures are automatically carried out on any person being given responsibilities for the safety of Her Majesty the Queen.

Mr. Whitelaw

I fully recognise the importance of making sure of the personal reliability of any person who is responsible for the safety of the Queen. In the light of Lord Bridge's report, I shall consider the best standing arrangements for securing this in future. In the meantime the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis has arranged in the past few days for all the officers allocated to the personal protection of members of the Royal Family to be positively vetted.
