asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals have been put to him concerning the future of Rhydlafar hospital; and when he expects to announce his decision.

categorised by sex, age and the duration of unemployment in (a) July 1979 and (b) July 1982, together wih the rate of change for each category between July 1979 and July 1982.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of persons registered as unemployed had been unemployed for more than two years in each employment office area in Wales for, each month since January 1979.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of persons registered as unemployed had been unemployed for more than 52 weeks for each of the counties of Wales and for each employment office area for April, July and October 1979, January, April, July and October 1980 and 1981 and January, April and July 1982.

Information in respect of the counties of Wales is as follows. Similar information in respect of each employment office area could only be provided at disproportionate cost.

Proposals for the transfer of orthopaedic services from the Prince of Wales hospital, Rhydlafar were received from the South Glamorgan health authority on 22 July. In accordance with the established procedure and taking account of the holiday period, I shall allow until 15 September for members of the public to make their views known before I take a final decision.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is prepared to receive a deputation from the action committee set up to oppose the closure of Rhydlafar hospital before he makes any decision on the matter.

I have been asked by the chairman of the action committee to receive a deputation and will gladly arrange this.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many letters he has received from individuals and organisations opposing the closure of Rhydlafar hospital and how many in support of the closure.

A total of 165 separate representations, and a petition of 180,000 signatures opposing the closure: no representations have been received in support of the closure.
