§ Mr. Alexander FletcherProposals for extending to honours Council for National Academic Awards degree courses in the surveying disciplines were put forward by Dundee Collge of technology in September 1980 in respect of the degree in quantity surveying, by Robert Gordon's institute of technology in December 1980 in respect of the degree in quantity surveying, and by Paisley college of technology in March 1981 in respect of the degree in land economics. The cost of these proposals was not quantified by any of the collges but in each case they indicated that additional staff, equipment and student support would be required.
None of these proposals was approved, on the grounds that there were established honours degree courses in building economics and quantity surveying and in estate management at Heriot-Watt university, that the proposals were unsupported by evidence of demand from the building industry for the provision of additional honours degree courses, and that at a time of constraints on public expenditure there were other demands on the resources available which took priority over these proposals.
The Dundee college of technology proposal was re-submitted at the end of June and this is now under consideration.
