§ Mr. Eggarasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether a management information and accounting system is in use in his Department; whether the information adduced is received and analysed at ministerial level; whether it is publicly available; and whether any changes are proposed in the coming year.
§ Mr. David HowellMy Department plans to introduce in 1983–84 a computerised management information system and improved budgeting procedures. These are being developed, and will be operated, in association with similar arrangement in the Department of the Environment but will be adapted and extended as appropriate to assist 577W the differing management tasks of my Department. Ministers in the Department will see, from this as from other sources, such analyses as may be helpful to us in controlling the Department in the same way as we at present see manpower budgets and other cost information. It is too soon to say how much, if any of the new management information produced will be suitable for publication.
