§ Mr. Arthur Davidsonasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether it is the practice of the Health and Safety Executive upon deciding to investigate the potential danger of an industry to consult or inform the local authority of the area of its decision.
§ Mr. WaddingtonThe Health and Safety Executive informs local authorities of the existence of industrial installations which are defined as major hazards in the areas so that they can take account of safety risks when making planning decisions. HSE inspectors do, of course, regularly make many inspections of industrial premises in the course of their duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. They do not normally consult or inform local authorities about such inspections except in special cases, for example, where there is a possible overlap in enforcement responsibilities.
