HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 c566W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the census report for inner Liverpool as far as it affects his responsibilities.

Dr. Boyson

The 1981 census report confirms that the population in Liverpool, both in total and in the school-age group, is sharply declining. My right hon. Friend is well aware of the problems which this decline has created in respect of the organisation of schools in Liverpool and has been discussing with the education authority and the Roman Catholic Schools Commission over recent months the implications for the organisation and quality of education in the city.
