HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 cc525-6W
Mr. Robert Hughes

asked the Minister for Trade if, pursuant to his reply to the hon. member for Aberdeen, North on 22 July, he will publish in whole or in part the report of the controller of the National Air Traffic Services into recent press allegations about air traffic operations around Aberdeen airport.

Mr. Sproat

[pursuant to his reply,27 July 1982, c. 481]: Since the material my Department and the Ministry of Defence receive from the controller of the National Air Traffic Services may touch on matters of national defence, I cannot undertake to publish it in its entirety. I will, however, publish a summary of investigations.

In the meantime, I am anxious to allay any public concern that may have arisen from the recent press article about air traffic operations around Aberdeen, and which have mainly been directed at air traffic management over the North Sea. In this regard, the controller, National Air Traffic Services, who visited Aberdeen on 23 July 1982, has indicated that he is satisfied that air traffic operations at Aberdeen airport, and the control of them, are being carried out in accordance with the usual high standards experienced elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
