§ Sir Keith JosephA proposal for a 5 per cent. increase in the salaries of university non-clinical academic and related staff has now been accepted by the relevant negotiating committee. The settlement runs from 1 April 1982. Its cost will be borne by employing universities: there is no question of increasing the grant paid to universities by the Government through the University Grants Committee on account of this settlement.
