Martin Smythasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether, in view of the proposal to co-ordinate the New University of Ulster and the Ulster College, he has any plans to bring the salaries of polytechnic staff into line with the Burnham scale; how pensions will be affected; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ScottBurnham provisions already apply, by extension, to the academic staff of the Ulster Polytechnic. The implications for salaries and pensions of the merger will be considered by the steering group appointed on 21 June.
