HC Deb 13 July 1982 vol 27 c324W
Mr. Wellbeloved

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what allowances are available to officers of the Special Constabulary up to and including the rank of commandant; when they were last reviewed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mayhew

Special constables may be reimbursed out-of-pocket expenses reasonably incurred in the execution of their duties. An allowance of up to £21.50 per day may be paid for loss of earnings in the special constable's private employment while he is specifically required for duty; this level was set in September 1981. A refreshment allowance of up to £1.18 and a boot allowance of £20 per year are also payable.

Allowances are kept under review and are revised when changes are made in the allowances paid to regular police officers.
