§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many schoolchildren at present benefit from the assisted places scheme in (a) the United Kingdom and (b) the area covered by the constituency of Macclesfield; and whether the Government plan to increase the number of assisted places available.
§ Dr. BoysonOver 4,200 pupils are currently benefiting from the assisted places scheme in England, 35 of whom are at the King's school, Macclesfield. The number of assisted places available in September has been increased by about 175.
