asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are a candidate's permitted election expenses in an election to the European Economic Community Assembly; how much public money is involved; and how often the level of permitted expenses has been reviewed.

The maximum permitted election expenses of a candidate at an election to the European Parliament are £5,000 plus 2p for every entry in the register of electors used at the election. These are the expenses incurred by
