HC Deb 06 July 1982 vol 27 cc96-7W
Mr. Forrester

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied that there are still advantages to a local authority of designation under section 12 of the Caravan Sites Act 1968; if he is satisfied that the provisions are operated as intended; and if he has any plans to make the designation effective.

Mr. Macfarlane

I consider that there are still advantages to local authorities in being designated under section 12 of the Caravan Sites Act 1968. The Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 enhanced these powers and there are presently no plans for further change.

Mr. Forrester

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities were designated under section 12 of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 in 1981; and what is the total number of authorities now designated.

Mr. Macfarlane

In 1981 the areas of six local authorities were designated. This brings the number of areas so designated to 40, of which two are of county councils.
