§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Basildon on 17 June, Official Report, c. 316, if he will take steps to ascertain from the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis which criminal offences were alleged against the 14 people demonstrating against the Pope's pastoral visit who were arrested.
§ Mr. MayhewWe understand from the Commissioner that the people were charged under section 5 of the Public Order Act 1936—prohibition of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.
