HL Deb 05 July 1982 vol 432 cc651-2WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the voting at the UN General Assembly on the resolution urging Israel to withdraw its forces from Lebanon; how the United Kingdom delegation voted; and who voted against.

Lord Belstead

The 7th Emergency Special Session of the General Assembly on Palestine approved on 26th June a resolution urging Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon. The United Kingdom and all members of the Ten voted in favour. Only the United States and Israel voted against.

Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How the UN Security Council voted on the French resolutions calling for a cease-fire in Lebanon and the disengagement of Israeli and Palestine armed forces under the supervision of the United Nations; how the British delegation voted; and what was the result.

Lord Belstead

All members of the Security Council except the United States voted on 26th June in favour of the draft French resolution. The resolution failed because of the United States veto.
