§ Mr. Normantonasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will invite nominations to the Economic and Social Committee of the European Community from British chambers of commerce and in particular from the Manchester chamber of commerce.
§ Mr. MacGregorThe economic and social committee of the EC covers a wide range of interests of which employers form only a part. The Government consult widely in seeking to ensure a proper balance between regional and sectoral interests while recognising that the successful candidates will be appointed and serve in a personal capacity.
We have taken careful note of the interest of the organisations mentioned in the question, and I would always be pleased to receive suggestions from them, though obviously it must be without commitment.
