§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will give, for the longest and most convenient stated period of time, the numbers of persons charged and found guilty of obtaining social security benefits illegally or under false pretences, the total amounts of public funds illegally obtained, the number found guilty, the total amount of fines imposed and the amounts that have been paid.

§ Mr. RossiIn the year ended 17 February 1981, the latest period for which information is available, the total number of persons prosecuted was 30,116, of whom 29,437 were convicted. No records are kept of the total amount of public funds illegally obtained by claimants or of the total amounts of fines imposed and paid.
