§ Dr. Mawhinneyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation which would rectify the anomaly that young people under the age of 16 years can now obtain video cassettes for viewing "X" certificate films and films whose contents would have precluded them from obtaining any certificate for cinema showing.
§ Mr. MayhewThe Government have no plans at present for legislation. We are, however, keeping under review the operation of the law in relation to video cassettes in the light, among other matters, of the discussions which are taking place between the British Board of Film Censors and the British Videogram Association about the introduction of a certificate scheme governing the sale or rental of video cassettes.
