§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Prime Minister (1) whether Merchant Navy personnel involved in the Falklands campaign will be eligible for any campaign medal for the campaign in a similar manner to the armed forces;
(2) if she will propose that a special campaign award be made in respect of Merchant Navy personnel involved in the Falklands campaign.
§ The Prime MinisterI hope to be able to make an announcement shortly about the award of a medal for the South Atlantic campaign. On past precedent, members of the Merchant Navy will be eligible for such a medal in the same way as personnel in the Armed Forces.
