HC Deb 25 January 1982 vol 16 c231W
31. Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what further proposals he has to encourage British industry to use the latest techniques of computer-aided design more widely.

Mr. Wakeham

The primary responsibility for ensuring that techniques for computer-aided design and manufacture are introduced into industry rests with those who sell them and those who use them. The Department is encouraging a wider appreciation of the benefits that these techniques can bring to a number of manufacturing industries with a three-year awareness campaign which began this month.

Financial support for relevant research and development and pre-production orders is also available within existing schemes. The Department will continue to review the need for further ways of assisting industry in using CADCAM techniques.
