§ Mr. Guy Barnettasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make special grants available to local education authorities to enable them to redecorate school buildings with lead-free paint, following the publication of the Greenwich study indicating the high level of exposure of children to lead contamination which results from lead in paintwork in schools, and the danger of brain damage that such contamination can cause.
§ Dr. BoysonLocal authorities have responsibility for the maintenance of school buildings and it is for each to determine the distribution of its expenditure between individual items.
