HL Deb 20 January 1982 vol 426 c688WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why they have priced the Department of the Environment's consultation paper on the Organisation of Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings —which consists of 72½small pages of text, a monochrome glossy cover and four blank pages, at £1..50.

Lord Cockfield

The consultation document was issued by the Department of the Environment in the way which seemed to them most likely to reach the widest public. The pictorial cover was added to improve marketability at low cost. Blank pages are sometimes necessary if the printer is to use the most economical production methods.

The publication was priced using standard scales which relate page content to selling price, provide consistent prices for items of a similar size and format and ensure that all costs to HMSO of printing, publishing and distribution of copies are recovered.

House adjourned at twenty-one minutes before nine o'clock.
