HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c39W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the total grants received by the rating authorities (a) for 1979–80 and (b) for 1980–81, in respect of rebates for hereditaments used by disabled persons and invalids introduced by the Rates Amendment (Northern Ireland) Order 1979 (S.I., 1979, No. 297 (N.I. 4)) that have been paid to (i) private households and (ii) institutions.

Mr. John Patten

In Northern Ireland the Department of Finance, which is responsible for rate collection, also administers the disabled persons allowance introduced by the Rates Amendment (Northern Ireland) Order 1979. No specific grants are paid to the Department of Finance, but rate relief allowed in respect of hereditaments used by disabled persons and invalids was as follows:

1979–80 £ 1980–81 £
Private households 7,510 12,708
Institutions Nil Nil

No applications for rate relief were received from institutions.
