HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 cc19-20W
8. Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has made any assessment of the reasons for the relatively poor improvement in perinatal and infant mortality in socio-economic group V between the years 1974 and 1980, compared with the trend in group I over the same period.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Figures are available for perinatal and infant mortality within social classes I and V for the years 1975 to 1979 only. Taking account of the fluctuations that occur from year to year, these figures, based on small numbers of deaths, give no statistically significant evidence of a widening gap between rates in the two classes.
