HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c2W
Sir Brandon Rhys Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total estimated cost in the current financial year, at 1981 cash prices, of administering all the different income maintenance payments and allowances, for instance training allowances and payments under the youth opportunities scheme, for which his Department is responsible.

Mr. Alison

The schemes for which the Department of Employment is responsible which involve income maintenance payments and allowances are the training opportunities scheme, the youth opportunities programme, the community enterprise scheme, community industry, the temporary short time working compensation scheme, the job release scheme, and the maternity pay fund.

The administrative costs of these schemes in 1981–82, which are provided for in the Estimates in class IV, votes 13, 16 and 17, but not all separately identified, are assessed to be £65 million.
