HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c53W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give details of the major study on the effects of lead pollution on children's intelligence which the Government invited the Medical Research Council to commission, referred to by the Minister for Local Government and Environmental Services on 11 May 1981, Official Report, c. 483.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science that the Medical Research Council has agreed to support Dr William Yule and Dr R. G. Lansdown in a one-year study which extends the coverage of other studies into the relationship between blood lead level and intelligence, behaviour and attainment in school children.
