HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c88W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) whether he expects to introduce legislation within the lifetime of the present Parliament to restrict and re-define the powers of search and entry given to the Inland Revenue by the Finance Act 1976;

(2) when he expects the committee currently examining the powers of the Inland Revenue under the chairmanship of Lord Keith of Kinkel to present its report.

Mr. Ridley

For the expected date of reporting may I refer my hon. and learned Friend to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Hendon, North (Mr. Gorst) on 17 December 1981.—[Vol. 15, c.220]. This would allow time for the Government to introduce legislation on topics within the committee's terms of reference within the lifetime of the present Parliament.
