HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c4W
Sir David Price

asked the Attorney-General whether the Department of the Lord Chancellor has made any specific contributions to the International Year of Disabled People; and if he will list them.

The Solicitor General

A special effort was made to recruit disabled persons and to encourage existing disabled employees to register. By the end of the year, 29 additional registered disabled persons were known to the Department. Staff were encouraged to become more aware of the problems of their disabled colleagues and members of the public, and a prize essay competition was held to stimulate interest in their difficulties. In conjunction with the Property Services Agency, steps were taken to ensure that the many new court buildings now under construction will contain adequate facilities for the disabled.
