HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c12W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give figures for immigration into the United Kingdom from India, Pakistan, the West Indies, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda for each of the past three years; and what requests to work here in the future have been made by residents of these countries.

Mr. Raison

Statistics of persons accepted for settlement are published by nationality in the annual Command Paper "Control of Immigration: Statistics, United Kingdom 1980"—Cmnd. 8199—a copy of which is in the Library of the House. Table 14 of this publication gives data for 1975 to 1980.

Applications for work permits are made to the Department of Employment. The numbers of outstanding applications by country are not readily available. However, statistics of work permits issued and refused by country are published regularly by the Department of Employment, in the Employment Gazette, for example, July 1980 edition, pages 742–746; November 1980 edition, pages 1188–1189.
