asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what is the estimated replacement cost of HMS "Invincible" at current prices;

(2) what is the forecast completed cost of HMS "Ark Royal" and HMS "Illustrious", respectively, at current prices.

It is not planned to replace HMS "Invincible".

The total estimated costs of particular ships under construction are not calculated wholly at current prices. However, we assess that the cost of an ASW Carrier of the same configuration as HMS "Ark Royal" at 1981–82 prices would be about £300 million.
