§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Defence how many people were employed at the latest available date in the manufacture of armaments in Scotland (a) directly and (b) indirectly.
§ Mr. PattieI regret that statistics are available only for the number of jobs sustained by defence equipment expenditure in the United Kingdom as a whole. The figures for the whole of the United Kingdom in 1980–81, the latest available period, were 240,000 direct and 190,000 indirect jobs; a further 140,000 jobs were sustained by the export of defence equipment.
