asked the Lord Privy Seal how many married women applied for British passports (a) as British-born nationals and (b) as a result of citizenship acquired through marriage, in the most recent year for which the figures are available.

No statistical analysis is available of passport holders according to their sex, marital status or the manner in which they acquired British nationality and citizenship. To produce such as analysis for a recent year would involve scrutinising over 2 million passport applications and would be prohibitively expensive
