HC Deb 24 February 1982 vol 18 c389W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if, in view of the high rate of unemployment in Northern Ireland, he will take special measures to offset the effects of redundancies at Harland and Wolff.

Mr. Adam Butler

Special measures are already being taken to combat unemployment in Northern Ireland. Industrial development and employment measures are accorded high priority, and Northern Ireland continues to enjoy the highest levels of financial assistance to industry available in the United Kingdom. The effectiveness of this assistance in dealing with the problems of unemployment within the Province is kept under review and the impact of redundancies is considered in that context.
