HC Deb 24 February 1982 vol 18 c401W
Mr. Robert C. Brown

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, whether there are any European Economic Community plans to harmonise food inspection standards and practice; and whether any comparisons have been made to establish how the level of standards maintained in the United Kingdom compares with those maintained in France, Germany, Denmark and the Republic of Ireland.

Mrs. Fenner

I am not aware of any plans for further harmonisation of food inspection standards within the EEC or to compare the standards and practices of its members. However, proposals to amend the existing community provisions on inspection of red meat and poultry meat are currently under discussion in Brussels.
