HC Deb 24 February 1982 vol 18 c415W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to help primary medical practitioners to appreciate better the number of patients who are alcoholics and who are misdiagnosed and in consequence are not being treated.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

When in 1980 we drew the attention of postgraduate medical deans to the report of the advisory committee on alcoholism in education and training, they expressed considerable interest in training in this field; we are, therefore, now proposing to draw to their notice the suggestion in "Drinking Sensibly", the discussion document prepared by the Health Departments and published in November 1981, that more time should be allowed to cover the subject in in-service training for general practitioners and other professions.
