§ Mr. Michael McGuireasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many appeals against the provisional recommendations of the Parliamentary Boundary Commission are still outstanding; how many are in the process of adjudication following appeal; and when he expects to be able to lay before Parliament the necessary orders.
§ Mr. MayhewI understand that the last local inquiry into the provisional recommendations of the Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England opened in Manchester on 17 February 1982 and that the commission has still to announce its preliminary findings in respect of 70 such inquiries. The commission hopes to complete its current review by the end of this year and to submit its final recommendations to my right hon. Friend as soon as possible thereafter. He will lay the commission's report before Parliament as soon as practicable after it has been received.
