§ Mr. Richard Shepherdasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his timetable for introducing legislation to reform the rating system; and whether he intends to introduce the legislation in this Parliament.
§ Mr. KingConsultation on the Green Paper "Alternatives to Domestic Rates"—Cmnd. 8449—closes on 31 March 1982. Although timing will then depend on the outcome of consultations and decisions about the nature of the future system, the timetable to which we are working makes possible the introduction of consequential legislation in the life of this Parliament.
