§ Q34. Mr. Adamsasked the Prime Minister if she will take immediate steps to ensure the future of the Scottish textile industry.
§ The Prime MinisterThe Scottish textile industry has weathered the present recession more successfully than the industry in the United Kingdom as a whole and there is now some evidence of a recovery, though certain sectors of the industry may require further rationalisation and investment. Assistance remains available for suitable cases notably under section 7 of the Industry Act. Over £7.8 million has been offered to the industry under those provisions since the beginning of 1979.
