HC Deb 18 February 1982 vol 18 cc190-1W
30. Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will review the statutory provisions relating to inquests, in order to examine the extent to which provision should be made for inquests on citizens of the United Kingdom who die suddenly while abroad.

Mr. Raison

The question whether or not a coroner is required or empowered under the existing law to investigate sudden, violent or suspicious deaths occurring abroad is the subject of a current application to the Divisional Court in relation to the death of Miss Helen Smith on 20 May 1979 in Jeddah, and it would be inappropriate for us to comment.
