§ Mr. Ray Powellasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will take steps to ascertain which sectors of industry in Wales have the most promising prospects for growth in the remaining years of the 1980s.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsI do not consider that a sectoral approach to industrial development is appropriate or helpful. There are clear signs of rapid growth in the electronics field and the full range of available assistance will continue to be applied to foster this. Our policies and schemes are aimed at securing the development of other high technology industries within Wales but I am also anxious to encourage the growth of viable undertakings whatever their industrial category.
